I thought a writer should get a lot of experiences, which meant I was in my forties when I started writing fiction. I spent years writing a novel. That’s how I learnt to write, and it brought me to Varuna. At Varuna I was treated as a writer, so I became one. I’ve been back there a few times. Each time, I take another step down my writing path.
